The Under Armour E39 Compression Shirt With Biometric Capabilities
At this year’s NFL Combine, top collegiate football players showcased their skills and talents for the benefit of professional coaches and scouts.
A talented new performer this year—prominent and surprising to many observers—was Under Armour’s prototype compression shirt, the E39, which incorporates monitoring technology to capture, measure and record the wearer’s heart rate, breathing rate, skin temperature, force generated and direction.
Data from the E39 can be transmitted via Bluetooth to a computer or smart phone, so athletes and trainers can study and evaluate it for the purpose of refining their training methods.
Only 10 percent or so of the more than 300 Combine participants sported the Iron Man-like shirt. The bad news is that most athletes—Julio Jones and Cam Newton were exceptions—will have to wait until 2012 to benefit from it.
In the video below, Under Armour team members take a deeper dive into the technology and benefits of the E39. For more updates and info on the product’s release date, head to underarmour.com.
