Improve Your Golf Game By Fueling With 1st and 10th Tee Bars
Good timing and strong mechanics are essentials in the game of golf. But in a sport where winning depends so much on precise execution, one major factor is often forgotten: nutrition. Proper nutrition is important for any athlete, but many golfers pay little or no attention to on-course fueling. During tournament time, it’s not uncommon to see pros wolf down candy bars or chips on the back nine.
Those habits will soon be broken if SCNS Sports Foods has any say in the matter. Their new 1st Tee Pre-Round Golf Nutrition Bars and 10th Tee Back Nine Golf Energy Bars aim to “help golfers sustain energy and play at their best.” The company’s core belief is that food should fuel your game but still taste great.
The 1st Tee Bar, made of oats, soy and crisp rice, offers a balanced combination of complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals for sustained energy. To help reduce “first tee jitters,” the bar also includes all-natural calming chamomile, hops and valerian root. The 1st Tee Bar comes in two flavors: Oatmeal Raisin, with a bottom layer of vanilla yogurt, honey, toasted oats and raisins; and Chocolate Peanut, with a bottom layer of chocolate and peanut-coating. Oatmeal Raisin has 280 calories, 7g of fat, 45g of carbs and 9g of protein; Chocolate Peanut has 290 calories, 8g of fat, 44g of carbs and 9g of protein.
When you’re halfway through your round and your stomach starts to growl, try the 10th Tee Back Nine Golf Energy Bar. Created to help maintain energy and focus, it contains green tea and panax ginseng extract to combat mental fatigue and sustain energy. The 10th Tee bar is a peanut lover’s dream, with two flavor options: Peanut Honey, made with peanuts, honey, peanut butter and vanilla yogurt; and Chocolate Peanut Caramel, a classic combo. Peanut Honey has 200 calories, 6g of fat, 30g of carbs and 7g of protein; Chocolate Peanut Caramel has 210 calories, 7g of fat, 29g of carbs and 8g of protein.
“We are delighted with the very positive feedback we continually receive on the taste of our 1st Tee Pre-Round Golf Nutrition bars and our 10th Tee Back Nine Golf Energy bar,” says Bill Stewart, president of SCNS Sports Foods. “More and more golfers are understanding the link between nutrition and performance. Our bars are a great tasting way to get the balanced nutrition and sustained energy golfers need to play their best.”
At a recent PGA event, we noticed pro golfers snagging boxes of SCNS bars. In our own sample testing, we couldn’t help but be impressed with the overall flavor. Although these bars boast healthy ingredients and offer better options than candy bars or chips, they do contain more than 200 calories per bar, so they may not be suitable as everyday snacks. However, they are a great fueling option for long tournaments and intense 18-hole training sessions.
The bars are available for purchase online or at specialty golf shops and tournaments around the country.
