Marvel Studios has found itself another hero. The company released a press release late last week announcing that actor/comedian Paul Rudd is its choice to play superhero Ant-Man.

In the release, MS exec Kevin Feige, who will serve as a producer of the upcoming flick, revealed that Rudd was Marvel’s and director Edgar Wright’s first choice for the role. He said, “When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief, because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star. We knew early on that we found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.”

Known more for his comedic chops than anything else, Rudd is a curious choice to portray the size-shifting insect-hero. It’ll be interesting to see what he brings to the role.

Details surrounding the film are scarce. But there’s a chance Rudd won’t play Pym. Instead, he could portray Scott Lang, a thief who steals Pym’s suit and takes on the identity of Ant-Man at Pym’s behest. The move could help avoid any further confusion with Ultron, seemingly set to become a creation of Tony Stark in the coming Avengers sequel.

Ant-Man will reach theaters July 31, 2015.
