In an interview with the Miami Herald, Ichiro talked about why he never slams his bats to the ground in frustration. One of the game’s greatest hitters, Ichiro has 2,994 career hits, six away from the 3,000-hit milestone.

“Why wouldn’t you take care of your bats?” Ichiro said to the Miami Herald. “This is a tool that we get paid to make a living with.”
He added that not treating his bats well would be rude to the people who made them. He said, “If you’re throwing it, they’re not going to feel good, and they’re not going to make you a great bat the next time.”
Ichiro places his best bats in a padded steel case designed to lock out moisture, which can make a bat heavier. Also, when he draws a walk, he gently places his bat on the ground instead of flinging it to the side like most players.
