5 Rappers Who Should Hit the Weights
With more rap beefs spinning off records and into the real world, today’s rappers need weapons in their arsenals besides catchy lyrics. Below are five rappers who have either been caught on the wrong side of a right hook or are courting injury with their tough rap personas without the muscle to back it up.
Tyler the Creator
On the off chance that Odd Future Wolf Gang doesn’t in fact kill them all, the Cali rapper, whose lyrics constantly and mercilessly take aim at other artists, may want to build up some skills away from the mic. Judging from pictures, strength is an area of concern for the 21-year-old.
Gunplay (from Maybach Music Group)
Gunplay may not have any hit songs yet, but the southern rapper has found success in other ways—mainly his ability to constantly end up in the press for coming up short in fights against other rappers. His latest entanglement involved 50 Cent’s G-Unit crew backstage at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta. True, it was a five on one situation, but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t bulk up.
Rick Ross (pictured above)
Is it unfair to list two rappers from the same clique? Ross’s size supports his boast of being the “biggest boss,” but it can be a liability if it limits his ability to perform at his peak. Besides, when fans start remixing your songs to mock your girth—”Big Mac & Fries” as opposed to “BMF,” “Everyday I’m Hungry” instead of “Everyday I’m Hustlin,” and, most recently, “Eat Millz” as a parody of “I’mma Boss”—you might need to make a change.
Game
The Compton rapper always seems to be in the middle of a scuffle. Most recently, he got into a dust-up with fellow Cali rapper 2Eleven at Lil Wayne’s 30th birthday party in Hollywood. With the number of his enemies trending up, the rapper may need to brush up his athletic skills. We suggest some boxing lessons, perhaps a few practice rounds in the ring with someone who isn’t hoping to score some publicity and a record deal. Or, Game might just need to learn how to run faster.
Drake
Always catching flak for his softer-than-Charmin rep in the rap game, the Young Money star is a constant target. A few visible muscles and a better throwing arm could have been beneficial during the rapper’s war-of-the-entourages with R&B singer Chris Brown this past June, which culminated in a bottle of liquor being thrown across the WIP Nightclub in Manhattan. Drake will need extraordinary endurance to make it through the slew of lawsuits filed by partygoers injured in the mêlée that followed that almost-fight.
