A Brief History of LeBron James’s Love of Popcorn
The NBA pre-season, like most pre-seasons, is entirely too long. Because of this, players like LeBron James are held out of games to preserve their energy for the regular season, sometimes for several games in a row. That was the case with LeBron on Thursday night, when he took his second consectuvie game off as the Cavs took on the Toronto Raptors in Cleveland. Though LeBron dressed, he acted like any of us would when we get to kick back and watch hoops. He sat down and ate some popcorn.

[youtube video=”XYGNpQ_nxmA” /]TNT’s cameras caught James sitting along the baseline tossing back kernels as the Cavs were soundly beaten by the Raptors—not the first time LeBron has been seduced by scent of buttered corn. The Akron native has a long history of eating popcorn on a basketball court, whether he’s playing or simply spectating.
This is a serious subject, which needed some diligent investigative work. So let’s begin.
Last season, when LeBron’s teammate Kevin Love fell near the sideline and knocked the popcorn out of a fan’s hands, LeBron was there to help clean up. Why? Because he has morphed into a 100 percent Dad.

In December 2014, the Cavs got to New York City a day early before squaring off against the Brooklyn Nets, giving LeBron a rare off night to do whatever he wanted. Naturally, he headed over to Madison Square Garden to sit courtside and watch his bud Carmelo Anthony get buckets, while chowing down on, you guessed it, some delicious popcorn.
You thought we were done? Oh no. Because here is LeBron James, then a member of the Miami Heat, snacking on a tub of popcorn during a break in the action of a Heat pre-season scrimmage. What other popcorn-eating moments are you hiding, LeBron? Who are you really? This might go all the way to the top!
[youtube video=”-rTDzu9DS_k” /]Finally, during his first stint with the Cavs in 2009, LeBron took a moment to sample a fan’s fries after being fouled on a drive to the basket. And sure, it wasn’t popcorn, but man, LeBron really enjoys his courtside snacks. Maybe if he spent less time eating and more time focused on the game, he would have seven MVP awards instead of four (this is a joke; please leave me alone in the Comments section).
So there you have it, folks. LeBron James loves popcorn, and he’s not afraid to show the world.
