Alden Ehrenreich and Lily Collins Headline Biographical Drama ‘Rules Don’t Apply’
Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) and Lily Collins (Mirror, Mirror) will star in the biographical drama Rules Don’t Apply, which delves into the strange world of the iconic inventor/aviator/studio mogul Howard Hughes, who was as famous for his eccentricities as for his impressive accomplishments. There have been other Hughes biopics over the years, but this one, set in 1958, is unique because it focuses heavily on two of his employees, an actress under contract (Collins) and his driver (Ehrenreich), who defy the billionaire by entering into a romantic relationship.
According to ComingSoon.net, “their instant attraction not only puts their religious convictions to the test, but also defies Hughes’ #1 rule: no employee is allowed to have an intimate relationship with a contract actress. But Hughes’s absurd behavior intersects with Marla and Frank in very separate and unexpected ways, and as they are drawn deeper into his bizarre world, their values are challenged and their lives are changed.”
The legendary actor/filmmaker Warren Beatty stars as Howard Hughes. This film marks Beatty’s return to acting on the big screen after a 15-year absence. Beatty also directed the movie and wrote the screenplay.
The star-studded cast also includes Haley Bennett (The Equalizer), Alec Baldwin (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation), Ed Harris (Pain & Gain), Oliver Platt (Chicago Fire), Martin Sheen (Grace and Frankie), Annette Bening (The Kids Are All Right), Steve Coogan (The Secret Life of Pets), Candice Bergen (Bride Wars) and Matthew Broderick, whose recent work includes the 2015 hit comedy Trainwreck.
Films about Howard Hughes have proven to be both popular and critically acclaimed, including Leonardo DiCaprio’s The Aviator and the offbeat 1980 dramedy Melvin and Howard.
Rules Don’t Apply opens in theaters on November 11, 2016.
