You probably have a good idea about where you stand athletically compared to the rest of your teammates, but have you ever wondered how you measure up to the rest of your league, or your conference—or how about your country?
A company called Athletic Standard has developed a standardized athletic scoring system. Ranging from 0 to 3,000, the AS Index (ASI) uses a methodology that factors in scores from common performance drills and physical measurements. Although different sports require different attributes, through testing, a unique algorithm and analytic software, the ASI provides a ranking of raw athleticism.
Athletic Standard has been providing such rankings for Division I schools for 30 years. But it has only recently become available to the general public.
The company recently launched its Athletic Intelligence Management (WIN) application, which calculates ASI score, ranks player against player, and tracks individual progress.

Athletic Standard partners with Spark Motion, a similar service that specifically analyzes motion; Athlete Connection, a non-profit that helps student-athletes continue their college education and/or search for jobs; and Perform Better, a leading supplier of functional training knowledge and equipment.
For a coach, recruiter, or personal trainer, use of the ASI could lead to more accurate predictions of on-field success, sharper evaluations of the potential and possibilities of your players and access to a global database of athletic talent.
For an athlete, the ASI can provide an objective evaluation of your strengths and weaknesses—and a push in the right direction toward opportunities to learn and improve yourself. ASI will tell you how hard you need to work to become a successful athlete.
