Rumor: ‘Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ Coming in May 2016
Recent reports have narrowed down the Batman v. Superman release date to May 2016.
Nikki Finke, who recently launched her own site, announced the news as part of a list of films to be discussed during a Warner Bros. press event at San Diego Comic Con in July. It’s never wise to bet against Finke, who has a knack for scoops like this, but her report did include the caveat that a few things are still “in flux” at the studio.
The movie was originally expected to arrive in summer 2015, but it was pushed back a year. Initial reports blamed trouble with the script and the addition of busy actors like Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg. However, Finke’s report quotes a source who claims the film was delayed to make sure that WB could firm up contracts with actors for cameo appearances in the movie, so it could serve as a true launching pad for the upcoming Justice League movie.
The full title for the forthcoming superhero flick was revealed last month: Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Many found the subtitle slightly over-dramatic, but it more than likely points to the seeds it will plant for the Justice League film.
Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot will appear in the film as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, respectively. Jesse Eisenberg will play Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons will portray Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred, and Amy Adams will reprise her role as Lois Lane. Rumors suggest Emily Blunt and Tom Hiddleston are in talks to join the cast as well.
