Inside the Rankings: Michigan Hockey
Over the past 21 years, the University of Michigan’s success has been a reliable constant in college hockey. The Wolverines have made it to the NCAA Tournament in every one of those years.
That record is only a small part of Big Blue’s historic legacy. A perennial power in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association conference, they have amassed a record nine NCAA national titles. Head coach Red Berenson consistently attracts the nation’s top recruits—many of whom, like Jack Johnson, Mike Cammalleri and Brendan Morrison, have gone on to play in the NHL.
The Wolverines’ unremitting domination on the ice makes them one of the most popular teams on campus. More than 8,000 faithful fans pack the Yost Ice Arena for games, filling the arena with roaring chants like “The Victors,” making it one of the most difficult venues for opponents to play in.
