‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II: The Green Destiny’ Heads to Theaters this Summer
The highly anticipated Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II: The Green Destiny is finally headed to theaters. Fans have been waiting 15 years for the sequel to the original Oscar award-winning Chinese warrior film, which wowed audiences back in 2000. One big distinction between The Green Destiny and the first picture is that Ang Lee did not direct the sequel. It was helmed by Yuen Wo-Ping, who is known for directing several martial arts-themed movies, including Tai-Chi Master and True Legend.
The Green Destiny is based on Iron Knight, Silver Vase, by Wang Du Lu, which is Book 5 of the Crane-Iron Pentalogy, the same book series that served as the basis for the original movie. Set 20 years after the events of the first film, the sequel centers on four martial arts heroes who team up to keep the evil Hades Da from gaining possession of the mystical sword known as Green Destiny.
Donnie Yen once again stars as Silent Wolf, and Michelle Yeoh reprises her role as Yu Shu Lien. The cast also features Eugenia Yuan (Memoirs of a Geisha), Jason Scott Lee (Seventh Son), Harry Shum Jr. (Glee), Chris Pang (I Frankenstein) and Darryl Quon, last seen in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.
The screenplay was written by John Fusco, whose recent work includes the martial arts fantasy film The Forbidden Kingdom and the Netflix adventure series Marco Polo.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon II: The Green Destiny will premiere in IMAX and on Netflix Aug. 28.
