‘Expendables 3’: Mel Gibson Uncertain, Nic Cage ‘Unlikely’
On Twitter recently, Sylvester Stallone seemed to confirm that Mel Gibson will indeed appear in the upcoming Expendables 3. But in the past, the actor has used social media to merely dream about what could be or to gauge fans’ interest in potential cameos, so nothing’s official just yet.
Mad Max vs Barney Ross……

Stallone was of course referring to Gibson’s character in 1979’s Mad Max and his own character in the Expendables series. The message lended credibility to rumors that Gibson, who was originally approached to serve as the film’s director, will play the main villain in the action flick.
Rumors also have Nic Cage joining the growing cast. But during a recent interview with Den of Geeks, Cage said he has not been in touch with anyone about the film. “I have not had any formal discussions about [Expendables 3]. I’m not in Kick-Ass 2, and I don’t think I’m in Expendables 3,” said Cage. “And I like those guys, but I would say it would be highly unlikely that I’d be in that movie.”
Thus far, the tribute to 80s and 90s action flicks will include newcomers Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan and Milla Jovovich, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Terry Crews and a slew of others. Jason Statham recently confirmed that he will again reprise the role of Lee Christmas for the movie. Patrick Hughes will direct.
Expendables 3 is slated to premiere Aug. 15, 2014.
