FMX Legend Brian Deegan: What Keeps Him Riding?
In STACK magazine’s just-released Back to School issue, freestyle motocross legend Brian Deegan reflects on his 18 years of dirt bike riding and shares his unique training routine.
Watching “The General” of the Metal Mulisha ride at his training compound, it looks a lot less stressful on the body than most STACK sports. But Deegan is living proof that riding takes a physical toll. He says, “I’ve broken my ankles. I’ve broken my femur in four spots. [I’ve broken] my hip, snapped my humerus in half and broken my wrists five times. I’ve compressed a vertebra in my back and blew up my kidney doing a backflip [for] the MTV show Viva la Bam. In the end, I’m still riding dirt bikes.”
How is it possible for Deegan to keep riding? One of the biggest reasons is his intense training off the ramps, which gives him strong STACKlete cred.
