Everyone celebrates the moment an athlete is crowned on the podium with gold, silver,
or bronze. But at the U.S. Center for SafeSport, we celebrate the practice, dedication,
resilience, and passion it took to reach that point. We believe athletes are defined by
their journey—not the medals they win.
Recognizing the importance of abuse-free sport settings, the U.S. Center for SafeSport
helps create safe, positive environments where athletes at every level can thrive and
win. By educating and informing athletes, coaches, parents, and others about abuse
and misconduct in sport, our resources set the stage for safer competition.
From the playing fields in your community to the elite podium in France, the U.S. Center
for SafeSport supports athletes of all abilities during the Paris Games and beyond them.

Celebrate the Journey
Sport is an opportunity to test your potential. It’s a chance to challenge the limits of
what’s been defined as possible and strive for gold. Athletes of every level and ability
deserve to play and compete in a setting where positive encouragement, supportive
motivation, and respect are practiced.
“Hearts of Gold” is a spoken word poem, written and performed by Colorado Poet
Laureate, Andrea Gibson. Through the power of spoken word poetry, Gibson highlights
the collective support needed for athletes to experience a safe, supportive path in sport.
The poem praises the parents, mentors, coaches, and officials who assist athletes
along the way. And it pays homage to the athlete journey, which often begins as a
childhood dream to one day compete on a world stage. Watch this short, inspirational
video and experience the powerful impact a supportive community can have on an
athlete’s journey.
The Center and the Games
The U.S. Center for SafeSport is the only organization with the authority to resolve
reports of abuse and misconduct within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement. In
this role, we support more than 11 million individuals throughout the Movement,
including the American athletes competing at the Paris Games this summer.
While our organization may have been created to put policies in place to make sport
safer for those within the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Movement, our scope extends
beyond that. Our trainings and resources support athletes of all levels, from local tee
ball leagues to adult recreation.
As we cheer for our nation’s athletes at the Games in Paris, let’s also cheer for sport
environments that prioritize athlete safety and well-being. Learn more and help end
abuse in sport at uscenterforsafesport.org.
The U.S. Center for SafeSport is a nonprofit organization created to respond to and prevent sexual, physical, and emotional abuse in the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement, from which it is independent. The Center also trains and educates people and organizations at all levels to support sport and recreation settings across America that protect athlete well-being.
