Gary Payton II, son of NBA legend and Hall of Fame guard Gary Payton, is showing out in the NBA D-League. The Former Oregon State guard went undrafted, but was later picked up by the Houston Rockets. After training camp, Payton was waived, and he now plays for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets’ D-League affiliate.

In his most recent game on Wednesday, the 6-foot-3 guard showed off his incredible leaping ability and absolutely posterized a defender with an and-1 slam. During a fastbreak in the middle of the fourth quarter, with one defender to beat Payton decided he to go through him rather than around him.

The 24-year-old can definitely leap, but finishing at the rim is not all he can do. Earlier in December, Payton dropped 51 points in a game. He shot 20-of-29 from the field, including 7-of-12 from 3-point range.

Like his dad, Payton can also play defense. He is tied for fifth in the league with an impressive 2.3 steals per game, and for the month of January he is averaging a block per game. Not bad for the son of “The Glove.” If Payton keeps terrorizing the D-League with massive dunks and lockdown defense, it won’t be long before you see him with the Rockets.
