Gina Carano Joins Ryan Reynolds in ‘Deadpool’
Actress Gina Carano, best known for Fast & Furious 6, has joined the cast of the highly anticipated Ryan Reynolds action film, Deadpool. The upcoming Fox release centers on the Marvel comics character, whose real name is Wade Wilson, known as a wisecracking mercenary. This isn’t the first time Reynolds has played the disfigured, mentally unstable anti-hero. He previously portrayed the character in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Before becoming a superhero, Wilson was an assassin who learns he is dying of cancer and undergoes treatment designed to cure him. But the procedure actually causes him to become twisted and scarred. The upside is that he also develops superpowers, most notably a capacity for accelerated healing.
Carano is set to play Angel Dust, who was depicted in the comics as a member of The Morlocks, an underground group of mutants. Carano has several other projects lined up for the near future, including the thriller Bus 657 with Robert De Niro. She will star opposite Bruce Willis in another action film, Extraction.
Also appearing in the film is T.J. Miller, who is expected to provide comic relief, although it is not yet clear what character he will play. The Russian character Colossus, from X-Men, will appear in the film, but there’s no word yet on who will be cast in the role.
Tim Miller will make his feature film directorial debut with this picture. Miller is best know for writing and directing animated shorts and for serving as an assistant director on Thor: The Dark World.
Deadpool is scheduled to hit theaters nationwide Feb. 12, 2016.
