After sitting on the sidelines last year due to the NFL lockout, HBO’s award-winning football documentary Hard Knocks returns tonight for another season. This year, the Miami Dolphins go under the microscope as cameras follow players, coaches and front office personnel during training camp. For Hard Knocks director Rob Gehring, what makes the Dolphins intriguing is the element that spices up any reality show: a rivalry.
“This is the first time since the Kansas City Chiefs show (of Hard Knocks) that we’ve had a quarterback battle,” said Gehring. “The NFL is a quarterback league, and to have them battle is good TV.” The battle that Gehring was referring to is between veteran David Garrard and rookie Ryan Tannehill, the third QB chosen in this year’s draft (after Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III).
Adding entertainment value to the show will be newly acquired wide receiver and reality star Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson. After a quiet year on and off the field under the watchful eye of Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, Ochocinco is expected to revert to his outspoken form.
Hard Knocks premieres tonight on HBO at 10 p.m. EDT.
STACK had the pleasure to meet up with both Ochocinco and Tannehill in the off-season. Check out our exclusive videos above.[youtube video=”mvGtqo3Puuo” /]
