Henry Cavill Boards War Movie ‘Sand Castle’
Henry Cavill (Man of Steel), Nicholas Hoult and Luke Evans (Fast & Furious franchise) are set to star in the big screen war drama Sand Castle. Inspired by real events, the film takes place in 2003 during the occupation of Iraq. Also cast is Toby Kebbell, best known for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
The screenwriter, Chris Roessner, based this intense film on his own personal experiences as a machine gunner in Iraq’s Sunni Triangle. Hoult plays Matt Ocre, who is working on a mission to repair a broken water system in a dangerous and unstable Iraqi village. A major focus of the movie is the resistance that Matt and his unit encounter from the villagers, which is in sharp contrast to the welcoming attitude toward Americans in Baghdad. To save this town and get out alive, the squad must convince the community that they are part of the solution rather than the problem.
Directing the film is Fernando Coimbra, whose most recent credits include the TV crime drama Narcos. Coimbra will make his English language feature film debut with this project.
COMINGSOON.NET quoted producer Justin Nappi, saying, “It took little convincing for me to come on board to produce this extraordinary and gripping film, which so accurately depicts the intricacies of real people in extreme circumstances. I am excited about our amazing lead cast who, in the hands of our masterful director Fernando, will deliver the most powerful performances of their careers. Nicholas, Luke and Henry are a dream team, as are my fellow producers Mark and Ben.”
Cavill will soon reprise his role as Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
A release date has not yet been announced, but Sand Castle is expected to hit theaters in 2016.
