Is Chris Pratt the New Indiana Jones?
There’s been plenty of buzz lately about whether Indiana Jones 5 will be made within the next few years, and, just as interesting, whether ultra-popular leading man Chris Pratt will play the iconic character now that 72-year-old Harrison Ford seems to have grown out of the role. Reports indicate that Lucasfilm, now owned by Disney, is planning another chapter of the Indiana Jones saga with a release date near the end of 2018.
Although it might be just a rumor, word from the studio is that a new installment will be forthcoming—it’s a matter of when, not if. Kathleen Kennedy, head of Lucasfilm, was quoted by Vanity Fair last May, that another Indiana Jones movie “will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.”
Of course, when the project does get under way, there’s no guarantee Chris Pratt will be cast as the title character. He is not the first hot young actor reported to be taking over the role. At one point, media outlets were insisting that Bradley Cooper was the heir apparent to the Indy legacy. However, Pratt seems like the perfect choice at the moment, especially in light of his massive success with another high-profile action-adventure flick, Jurassic World.
Pratt lightheartedly addressed the rumors when he spoke to Nerdist Podcast recently: “I actually got a call today from my brother, and he said it’d be cool if I did it, so I have my brother’s permission,” he joked. “That’s the first of many steps; none of the other steps have happened.”
