First there was Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion back in 1997. Now we have a similarly themed male equivalent with The D-Train, starring Jack Black and James Marsden. Like Romy and Michelle, the new movie centers on a high school reunion, a second chance at popularity and a pack of lies. However, there are some key differences: the two central characters, Dan Landsman (Black) and Oliver Lawless (Marsden), are not friends at the beginning of the story and only one of them is a social misfit.

Dan, the head of his high school reunion committee, has never been considered cool, but on the eve of a class reunion, he is determined to reinvent himself. His plan is to con Oliver, his most popular former classmate, now the face of a National Banana Boat ad campaign, to show up with him at the reunion. But Dan may regret his new alliance when Oliver decides to completely take over Dan’s life, including his home and career.

The cast also features Kathryn Hahn (We’re the Millers), Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent), Mike White (Enlightened), Nat Faxon (Tammy), Henry Zebrowski (The Wolf of Wall Street) and Kyle Bornheimer of TV’s Agent Carter.

The film was written and directed by collaborators Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul, both of whom are making their directorial debut with this project. The two previously worked together on scripts for the Jim Carrey comedy Yes Man and the animated TV series Allen Gregory. They are also about to team up on a sequel to Bruce Almighty.

The D-Train steams into theaters on May 8.
