Joe Haden Reveals Who He Wants the Cleveland Browns to Select at No. 2 Overall (Hint: It’s Not Goff or Wentz)
The 2016 NFL Draft is shaping up to be one of the wildest in recent memory.
With the Los Angeles Rams pulling off a blockbuster trade to acquire the No. 1 overall pick from the Tennessee Titans, the Cleveland Browns’ draft plans have become an interesting point of conversation. If the Rams take Cal quarterback Jared Goff with the first pick, will the Browns be happy picking North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz? What if the situation is reversed and Wentz goes first? Or would it make more sense for the rebuilding Browns to trade down and acquire a larger number of total draft picks?
All are viable choices that could shape the future of Cleveland’s franchise, but if star cornerback Joe Haden has his way, the team will select a playmaker on defense:
Birthday boy @joehaden23 to me on the 2016 draft prospect he’d pick for the #Browns: “Jalen Ramsey. That’s my man…That would be fire.”

Haden dealt with injuries last season, but there’s no question the tw0-time Pro Bowler is one of the few impact players on the Browns’ roster. Ramsey, a cornerback from Florida State, is considered by many analysts to be the most athletically gifted prospect available. He stole the show at the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine, recording a 4.41 40-Yard Dash, a 41.50-inch Vertical Jump and an 11-foot-3 Broad Jump. From his NFL.com prospect profile:
“Press cover corner with disruptive length to fluster receivers and the makeup speed/leaping ability to stymie downfield attacks. Ramsey made more plays on the ball from the slot last year, but his ability to jam and trail receivers limited playmaking opportunities this year. Ramsey has all-pro potential and traits, but could use a little more bravado and attitude play in and play out.”
Pairing Haden and Ramsey in the same defensive backfield could go a long way toward shoring up the Browns’ anemic pass defense, which allowed opposing quarterbacks to post a 101.8 passer rating in 2015.
