Jon Hamm to Star in Crime Thriller ‘Baby Driver’
Following his enormously successful TV series Mad Men, Jon Hamm has signed on to star in the feature film crime thriller Baby Driver. The Emmy-winning actor joins a cast that includes Jamie Foxx, (Django Unchained), Lily James (Downton Abbey) and Ansel Elgort (Divergent franchise).
The storyline follows Elgort’s character, a talented young man who works as a getaway driver for bank robbers, relying on the beat of his personal soundtrack for the advantage he needs to be the best. He has acquired the nickname “Baby” due to his youthful face. When Baby reluctantly agrees to work for a crime boss, he gets into trouble as a result of a botched robbery. He is subsequently forced to run from more than one faction, as his freedom, love and even his life are in jeopardy.
The film, which is also being characterized as a comedy, is being written and directed by Edgar Wright, best known for Shaun of the Dead and the popular 2013 sci-fi comedy The World’s End. Wright’s connection to Baby Driver actually goes back more than 10 years, when he directed the Mint Royale music video Blue Song, which reportedly served as partial inspiration for the upcoming picture.
Although Hamm’s exact role is undisclosed for now, he will play one of the movie’s villains. He is currently filming another highly anticipated movie, the comedy Keeping Up With the Joneses, co-starring Gal Gadot, Zach Galifianakis and Isla Fisher, due out next year.
Baby Driver is expected to begin shooting by the end of the year and to hit theaters on March 17, 2017.
