Judd Apatow Joins Laura Dern for Football Comedy Film
Laura Dern and Judd Apatow are joining forces for a movie comedy about obsessive female football fans, and the project has been picked up by Universal.
The idea for this ensemble feature was conceived by Dern, and she enlisted Apatow to come aboard as her production partner. One of the most successful filmmakers in Hollywood, Apatow has written, produced and/or directed such hits as The 40-year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Bridesmaids and This is 40. Also producing is Barry Mendel, who worked with Apatow on Bridesmaids.
South Park’s Pam Brady will write the screenplay for the movie. Erik Baiers (Les Miserables) will oversee production for Universal.
Recently, Apatow has been working on television projects as much as on films. He is currently writing and producing the HBO series Girls. His next big screen venture will be the Daniel Radcliffe comedy Trainwreck, debuting in July of 2015.
It is not clear yet whether Dern will star in the so-far untitled football film. The Golden Globe-winning actress has been keeping busy appearing in a variety of films, including the popular romance drama, The Fault in Our Stars.
