Crowd noise during an NFL football game can definitely affect an opposing team. The louder the crowd, the harder it is for players to hear the call in the huddle, react to the quarterback’s cadence at the line of scrimmage and remain focused in general. But during Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the crowd noise actually pumped up Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston.

Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Chiefs, is one loud place. According to guinnessworldrecords.com, Arrowhead Stadium holds the record for loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium. In 2014, Chiefs fans got up to 142.2 decibels. During every third down or big play situation, Chiefs fans do what they call the “Tomahawk Chant.”

The noise can obviously lead to miscommunications for the opposing team, but it didn’t work against Winston. Winston played college football at  Florida State University, where the fans perform a similar chant, known in Tallahassee as the “Seminoles War Chant.”

In a press conference after the game, the 22-year-old quarterback said that the Chiefs crowd got him pumped up. He even started to do the chant with them. That’s probably not the effect the home fans wanted.

The Bucs won the game 19-17, ending the Chiefs’ five-game win streak. Winston had 331 passing yards, one touchdown and a QB rating of 97.3.

And Winston wasn’t the only ex-Seminole who was positively affected by the chant. Bucs kicker Roberto Aguayo also had a good performance. The rookie kicker has struggled, but against the Chiefs, he had a perfect day, 4 for 4 on field goals and 1 for 1 on extra points.
