Karl-Anthony Towns Might Possess Better Handles Than Some NBA Point Guards
Forget for a moment that the Minnesota Timberwolves have started the 2016-2017 NBA campaign a disappointing 1-4. Forget that they’ve blown leads of 15 points or more three times (!!!) already. One video clip should give Wolves fans hope and excitement for what’s to come: this one from Karl-Anthony Towns last night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Towns is seven feet tall, weighs 244 pounds and is busting out crossover dribbles like his name was Chris Paul. After he recovers from Towns’s left-to-right, between-the-legs crossover, Joffrey Lauvergne actually does a pretty decent job of staying with Towns; but he’s still no match for Towns’s physicality once Towns muscles the ball up and off glass for two.

Towns has flashed his dribbling ability before, both during his rookie season and in pre-NBA Combine workouts in 2015. Still, watching a man of his size handle the ball like a point guard is inspiring. It begs this question: how in the world are you supposed to guard a guy of his size who can play from the post and put the ball on the floor so smoothly? Judging from Towns’s back-to-back 30-point games, the answer has yet to be found.
