Actor-filmmaker Kenneth Branagh has signed on to direct a remake of the classic mystery thriller, Murder on the Orient Express. The original 1974 film, which featured an ensemble cast of iconic stars, including Sean Connery and Ingrid Bergman, was based on one of Agatha Christie’s most popular whodunits. Set in the 1930s, the story takes place on a train that has been stopped by deep snow. Christie’s famous detective, Hercule Poirot, attempts to solve a murder that was committed in his car the previous night.

The screenplay for the new adaptation is being written by Michael Green, who is best known for his work on several TV series, including Smallville and Heroes. Over the past few years, Green has moved into writing movie scripts, and he is currently working on high-profile sequels—the next installment of Wolverine and two Ridley Scott projects, Alien Covenant and an untitled Blade Runner film.

The Orient Express remake will be another collaboration between Green and Ridley Scott, who is one of the film’s producers.
