Kevin Garnett announced his retirement from the NBA yesterday, joining Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan as part of the outgoing class of basketball legends. [youtube video=”vCOsj8G0CrI” /] [youtube video=”AzJPbpFXvLo” /]Garnett was relentless on the court, both in terms of his game and his passion, sometimes getting so overhyped that he would voluntarily walk into a coach’s office and place himself in a “timeout” until he calmed down. It’s no surprise that his work ethic off the court was just as dedicated. Garnett became known for his insanely early beach workouts, which included 3-mile runs in the sand at 5:30 a.m., sometimes in the pitch dark, five days a week during off-seasons. Garnett would also perform interval runs, mimicking the stop and start nature of his movements on the hardwood.
“People ask me all the time, ‘Do you love running on the beach, on the sand?’” Garnett told Men’s Fitness. “Nah, but I do love getting better.”
Farewell, KG, and may your way-too-early beach runs live on forever.
