Is Kyrie Irving Finally Getting a Signature Shoe?
We’ve been hearing for a long time that Kyrie Irving, the All-Star point guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, is next in line for a signature shoe from Nike. After Irving extended his contract with the brand this off-season, the proverbial wheels are apparently now in motion. Darren Rovell, ESPN’s sports business reporter, tweeted out a picture of a brand new Kyrie Irving logo, claiming that Nike had recently trademarked it.
Kyrie has had a logo of sorts on his shoes before, most noticeably on the tongue of his Nike Hyperdunk PEs, but this new logo has more substance. The “K” is placed in front of the “I,” which is cleverly broken up into two lines, a reference to Irving’s No. 2 jersey number.
No official confirmation yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see Irving join the ranks of Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant and new teammate LeBron James as a Nike signature athlete for the 2014-2105 season. Look for his shoe to take elements from both the Hyperdunk and the Nike HyperRev, which Irving wore for much of the second half of last season. Stay tuned to STACK for more details.
