Thriller ‘Labor Day’ Stars Josh Brolin, Opens in December
The thriller Labor Day tells the story of what happens when 13-year-old Henry Wheeler (Gattlin Griffith), preoccupied with girls and suffering typical adolescent woes, has to protect himself and his emotionally fragile single mother Adele (Kate Winslet) from imminent danger.
While doing some back-to-school shopping, young Henry and Adele meet Frank Chambers (Josh Brolin), a man obviously in trouble, who persuades them to take him to their home. The weekend quickly turns into a nightmare when it becomes clear that Frank is an escaped convict.
The cast also includes Tom Lipinski (Suits), Clark Gregg (Iron Man 2), Tobey Maguire, who plays Henry as an adult, and Dylan Minnette (Prisoners), who plays him at age 16.
The film is directed by Jason Reitman, best known for 2007’s Juno. Reitman also wrote the screenplay, which was based on the highly acclaimed novel of the same name by Joyce Maynard.
Labor Day opens in limited release Dec. 25, expanding to wide release Jan. 31, 2014.
