‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Casts New Vixen
Major developments at DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: It’s been announced that The Originals star Maisie Richardson-Sellers will take on the new iteration of superhero Vixen for the show’s second season. The series’ time travel premise will conveniently allow the actress to play different incarnations of the character, who existed in the past. Another potential advantage is that Legends of Tomorrow could at some point feature a cross-generational team.
The reason Megalyn Echikunwoke wasn’t re-cast as Vixen is because of her schedule. The actress is already portraying the superhero on the CW animated series as well as the live action show Arrowverse.
Created in 1978 by Gerry Conway and artist Bob Oksner, Vixen has a long and exciting history in the comic book universe. She was a part of DC’s Suicide Squad, The Justice League and the New 52 reboot in 2011.
According to Variety, “Richardson-Sellers will play the series regular role of Amaya Jiwe, the grandmother of the present-day Vixen, Mari McCabe (Megalyn Echikunwoke). Like her granddaughter, Amaya derives her powers from the mysterious Tantu Totem, allowing her to magically access the abilities of animals.”
In addition to her role as Rebekah Mikaelson/Eva Sinclair on The Originals, Richardson-Sellers is also known for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and for playing Saul’s daughter Michal in Of Kings and Prophets.
Another actor joining the show is Nick Zano. He has been cast as Dr. Nate Heywood, a historian with an impressive lineage. Heywood’s grandfather was Commander Steel, a hero who was member of the Justice Society of America.
