Steve Carell to Star in Live-Action ‘Acme Looney Tunes’ Film
Steve Carell is going to headline an inventive big screen comedy based on the memorable fictitious Acme Corporation from the classic Looney Tunes cartoons.
Although this Warner Bros. production was inspired by the studio’s famous cartoon franchise, featuring animated favorites like Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd, the characters will reportedly not be the central focus of the story. Touted as an “event movie,” which could easily spawn a franchise of its own, the project is being described as a CG/live-action hybrid focused on life at Acme, which is known to manufacture wacky products that often malfunction at the worst possible times ( e.g., gadgets used by one of their best customers, Wile E. Coyote.)
Filmmakers are holding back on revealing specific details of the plot.
Carell may be reuniting with his Crazy, Stupid, Love directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, who are currently in talks to direct the picture.
Writing the yet-to-be-titled film are the highly sought after X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. This screenwriting duo, also responsible for 2011’s Thor, has several other high-profile motion pictures lined up, including Power Rangers and Top Gun 2.
Further evidence that Warner Bros. is bringing its A-game for this project is that it’s being produced by Dan Lin and Roy Lee, who were behind the massively successful 3D animated pic The Lego Movie.
