EA Sports has announced plans to release the next installment in their Madden NFL franchise.
“Hey football fans, we’re sure you’re getting pumped for the NFL Draft, and now there’s one more thing to get excited about: Madden NFL 16 is in development and will launch on Aug. 25,” wrote the developer in a short post on their website.
EA offered no other information, but they did promise more details in May. The last installment targeted better defensive play, including the introduction of a new camera angle aimed at educating people on major defensive concepts; introduced Gauntlet mode; and featured a reinvigorated Skills Trainer. Critics said Madden NFL 15 didn’t truly feel like a new experience or noticeably set itself apart from its predecessors.
Madden NFL 16 is expected to arrive for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and there’s a good chance it will also come to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The title will be facing more competition this time around. Developer Unreal Engine 4 is collaborating with former 49ers QB Joe Montana to produce a new game titled Joe Montana Football 16. Latino Post reports that the developer is considering using retired players and fictional teams to give them a competitive edge. Still, it’s EA’s game to lose since they have exclusive rights to NFL teams and players.
In related news, Madden NFL 15—the second best-selling game of 2014 (based on physical retail sales)—was recently added to the EA Access Vault, giving subscribers full access to the game.
