‘Metal Gear Solid V’: Kojima Reveals New Details
In an interview with Game Informer, Konami’s Hideo Kojima revealed new details about the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The game has been a mystery for some time, with gamers unsure of everything from the title (Ground Zeroes or Phantom Pain?) to the main character (Big Boss or Solid Snake?).
The series director has finally decided to answer a few questions about the upcoming installment. The Game Informer video interview contains plenty of discussion about Metal Gear‘s notoriously complicated lore, then quickly dives into gameplay and mechanics.
According to Kojima, the game will be split into two parts: the prologue Ground Zeroes, which will feature self-contained linear play; and the main story, Phantom Pain, which will be an open world full of different playing strategies. Although the core controls won’t change between the two games, Kojima noted that “how the game feels might change.”
Players will take control of Big Boss, the protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 3 and “father” (in a sense) of the series’ main protagonist, Solid Snake. Thanks to the game’s open-world design, they’ll get to tackle missions in any way they choose, from sneaking into compounds undetected to relying heavily on their weapons. As they could in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, gamers will also get their own base, which will expand as they rescue hostages.
Metal Gear Solid V is slated to arrive on Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Playstion 4, and Xbox One, but it currently doesn’t have a solid release date.
