Nate Robinson Is Trying Out for the Seattle Seahawks
Nate Robinson, the diminutive former guard for the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls and Denver Nuggets (among other NBA teams), has been talking all off-season about attempting a run at the NFL. After garnering little to no interest from NBA teams last summer, he signed with the New Orleans Pelicans, for whom he appeared in only two games early in the season before being released. Robinson then turned his attention to football, the sport he actually played in college (he was a cornerback for the Washington Huskies). We didn’t hear much after his initial announcement, and Robinson subsequently traveled to Israel to play basketball for Hapoel Tel Aviv.

But when Tel Aviv’s season ended and NFL teams began gearing up for training camps, Robinson shifted his sights back to football—and his prospects look more realistic than ever. The Washington Post is reporting that Robinson is trying out for the Seattle Seahawks today as a defensive back. We won’t know until later whether he’ll be invited to training camp. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoaport is reporting he won’t be signed today, though he will be in the minds of the Seahawks brass as they get closer to camp.
Still, simply earning a tryout with a franchise that has been the class of the NFL over the past five years is a monumental achievement for a guy who’s been told “you can’t” because of his size for most of his career. We wish Nate the best.
