New Lakers Big Man Timofey Mozgov Shows Off Secret Ability to Drain 3-Pointers
As one of the few remaining traditional big men left in the NBA, Timofey Mozgov obviously doesn’t stake out territory beyond the 3-point line very often—and for good reason. Over his six-year career, Mozgov has attempted only 39 3’s and made exactly seven of them. That’s bad, very bad—17 percent bad—bad enough to anger a coach any time Mozgov decided to hoist a 3-point shot.

And yet, as the NBA continues to evolve, Mozgov, who signed a 4-year, $65 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers during the off-season, appears to have put a fair amount of work into making himself a legitimate 3-point threat. In a video tweeted out by the Russian Basketball Federation, Mozgov can be seen draining 3 after 3 during practice for his home country this summer—and looking pretty good doing it.
The Laker brass will no doubt be thrilled if their prized off-season acquisition has developed a new aspect to his game, one that will allow him to pop out to the perimeter and space the floor. We’ll know more about Mozgov’s ability to shoot from deep once the regular season starts, but for now, the Lakers’ new big man is surely impressing the coaching staff with his extra work.
