The STACK Velocity Sports Performance NFL Combine training group in Irvine, California, features prospects from elite college programs such as Notre Dame and Southern California. But one prospect who’s generating lots of buzz is a wide receiver from the University of Manitoba in Canada.
Nic Demski has dreams of playing in the NFL, but he knows his best bet for playing on Sundays may include a stop in the Canadian Football League.
Proving how serious he is about fulfilling his NFL ambitions, Demski traveled to Southern California to participate in the NFL Combine training program at STACK Velocity Sports Performance. He says, “It’s an everyday grind. There’s not one rep, not one set that you can take off. Everything has a purpose.”
The four-time All-Canadian WR transformed his physique during weeks of Combine workouts. He weighs 205 pounds, down 10 pounds from his playing weight. Demski says, “I’ve never been this lean and I’ve never been this explosive. I’ve been making some pretty big strides while I’m down here.”
The top-ranked wideout in this year’s CFL Draft, Demski is projected to be a top-five selection. “I just want to play the best football that I can,” he says. “It’s been a childhood dream to get a chance to play in the NFL, and I’m getting that much closer to actually pursuing it. It’s a motivating feeling, and I’ve just got to take it one step at a time.”
Playing in the CFL could prove to be a promising first step for Demski as he embarks on his ultimate goal of making it to the NFL. Several current NFL players, including Cameron Wake of the Miami Dolphins and Andrew Hawkins of the Cleveland Browns, used the CFL as a launching pad for successful NFL careers.
So although you may not hear Demski’s name called in this year’s NFL Draft, don’t be surprised to see him running routes on an NFL Sunday in the near future.
