Nike Unveils Its Hyper Elite USA Basketball Uniforms
At the recent Olympic Innovation Summit in New York, Nike introduced the apparel that their athlete-endorsers will wear this summer at the 2012 Olympic Games—including the Hyper Elite USA Basketball uniforms, which combine Nike’s lightest, most technologically advanced fabrics with iconic graphics.
The innovation begins with Nike Aerographics, an engineered fabric with a passive cooling solution, allowing for greater design and graphic flexibility with mesh areas that have no additional seams. Plus, USA Basketball’s Hyper Elite Shorts weigh in at 14 ounces, lighter than the shorts currently worn by professional players.
Nike’s Hyper Elite Jersey, the company’s lightest jersey ever, features a breathable and durable design with striking Nike Aerographics. Its 3D-structured Dri-Fit fabric helps pull sweat away from the skin and reduces cling; and a functional flock screenprint on the inside of the collar offers further sweat management. The sleeveless v-neck jersey, including hem vents and modified armholes, promotes mobility. The slim fit reduces bulk.
The jerseys feature bold graphics, including contrast color blocking, signature Nike Aerographics on the back and a message on the inside of the neck. Another cool feature: Nike’s Hyper Elite Basketball Uniforms use, on average, 22 recycled plastic bottles per uniform. The men’s jersey is made of approximately 96 percent, and the shorts of 100 percent recycled polyester material. The shorts have the same wicking Dri-Fit capabilities as the jersey, and they feature four-way stretch fabric for mobility and comfort. Side panels sport laser-cut perforations, supplying even more ventilation. A waistband with engineered ventilation perforation and an internal drawcord create a secure, comfortable fit around the waist.
