New Glove From Nike Doesn’t Need to be Broken In, Looks Awesome
America’s pastime just got a whole lot slicker. Today, Nike announced the launch of its Vapor 360 fielding glove, perhaps the coolest looking baseball glove we’ve ever seen.
“The Nike Vapor 360 incorporates Hyperfuse construction, dynamic Nike Flywire and an engineered leather palm to achieve the first lightweight, ultra-responsive glove that is game-ready out of the box,” Nike said in a press release. The glove was designed in consultation with Colorado Rockies All-Star outfielder and 3-time Gold Glove Award winner Carlos Gonzalez.
Besides looking awesome, the glove, according to Nike, “needs zero break-in time” and is ready to use immediately. Nike Baseball senior designer Matthew Hudson said, “Traditional leather baseball gloves can take up to three months of breaking in. We’ve taken a traditional leather for the palm and perforated it to remove some of the structure so it forms more quickly.”
That means less time oiling the glove and putting it under the mattress and more time making highlight-reel grabs. Sounds good to us.
Gonzalez began wearing the glove last season, albeit in a different color scheme. He says, “Once I put it on and played catch . . . everything clicked. This is what I was looking for. I wear this glove and I feel like I can catch any ball.”
