Owen Wilson Will Co-Star with Ed Helms in ‘Bastards’
Owen Wilson is set to star alongside Ed Helms (We’re the Millers) in the upcoming comedy film Bastards, from Alcon and Montecito Picture Company. The plot involves two brothers whose mother’s wild past included affairs with many famous men during the 1970’s, the heyday of the legendary nightclub Studio 54. When they learn that their biological father is still alive, the duo sets out on a road trip in search of him.
The film will reportedly feature cameos by a number of well-known older actors, discussing the flings they had with the mother.
The screenplay was written by relative newcomer Justin Malen (Trophy Wife and the upcoming Bad Teacher 2).
This film marks the directorial debut of Larry Sher, best known for his work as the cinematographer on The Hangover franchise.
Producing are Alcon’s Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, who have collaborated on popular pictures such as The Blind Side and Prisoners. Also producing are Montecito’s Ivan Reitman, Tom Pollock and Ali Bell.
The prolific Wilson has two high-profile films debuting in less than a year: the action comedy Masterminds and the much anticipated sequel to Ben Stiller’s Zoolander, in which Wilson will reprise his memorable role of Hansel. Both films co-star Kristen Wiig.
Helms will next be seen as an adult Rusty Griswold in another road trip comedy, National Lampoon’s film reboot Vacation, out July 29.
Filming on Bastards is expected to begin in September in Atlanta.
