Penn State RB Saquon Barkley Solidifies His Freak Athlete Status by Running and 4.30 40 and Benching 225 30 Times
Saquon Barkley continues to prove that he’s one of the rarest athletes college football has ever seen.
The 5-foot-11, 223-pound Penn State running back has performed a number of impressive training feats this offseason, including a 405-Pound Power Clean and a 4.33 40-Yard Dash. You can add 30 reps on the 225-pound Bench Press test to his list of awesome athletic accomplishments.
Barkley took on the test at Penn State’s “Lift for Life” event, which aims to raise money for those who are fighting rare diseases.
Just how impressive is that?
Consider this—over the last three NFL Combines, only one running back reached the 30-rep mark. That man was none other than Samaje Perine, a player who’s built his own reputation for superhuman strength. The difference is that Perine ran a 4.65 in the 40-Yard Dash.
“The thing that makes Saquon unique is, he does 30 (reps in the Bench Press) and then he runs a 4.3 (in the 40-Yard Dash),” Dwight Galt, Penn State’s Director of Performance Enhancement, told MCall.com. “Usually it’s one or the other.”
Barkley’s unreal blend of speed and power helped him gallop for 1,496 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns last season. While defenses will undoubtedly be keying in on the back in 2017, all signs indicate he’s primed for another monster year.
