Javier Bardem May Play Villain in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’
It looks like Javier Bardem will be following the lead of his wife, Penelope Cruz, by starring in the next installment of the popular film franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean. A few years ago, Cruz appeared as the feisty Angelica in the fourth film in the series, On Stranger Tides. Now comes word that Bardem is in talks to play a villain in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Bardem’s character will be chief antagonist Captain Brand, a ghost who holds Jack Sparrow responsible for his brother’s death—a development that begs the question: will Cruz return for the new installment? Rumor has it she will. There is also talk that Orlando Bloom may return as Will Turner. Definitely coming back to the cast will be Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush.
Another new character will be a woman accused of being a witch who is appropriately slated to be Sparrow’s love interest.
It seems this slow moving project is finally gathering steam, with plans for a five-month shoot in Australia next year.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is set to be released on July 7, 2017.
