If you didn’t catch the Rhode Island Division III boys basketball state championship game this past weekend, you missed a real doozy.

With time winding down and Burrillville trailing Chariho by a single point, Jarred Cabral buried a midrange jumper to pull Burrillville ahead. With a 1-point lead and mere seconds remaining, all Burrillvillle had to do was get a stop to secure the victory. What happened next will go down as one of the wildest endings in high school hoops history:

Though it might look really cool to chuck the ball into the air as the final seconds tick away, it’s important that said ball doesn’t land directly in the other team’s hands with time still on the clock. Either throw it really, really high or dribble into the open court.

Given the circumstances, we’re inclined to say this is the wildest ending to a basketball game we’ve ever seen. The final seconds featured a go-ahead basket, a crucial steal, a totally bone-headed move, a premature court storming and a ridiculous half-court alley oop buzzer-beater. To top it all off, this was the state championship! In terms of absurd endings, this one has it all.
