Robert De Niro Flick ‘Hands of Stone’ Coming Soon
Whether it’s an intense drama, a wacky comedy or something in between, Robert De Niro has proven he can do it all—and he continues to be as popular as ever. The actor’s next film, Hands of Stone, set in the world of boxing, follows the life of legendary fighter Roberto Duran. De Niro, who played fighter Jake Lamotta in Raging Bull, portrays Duran’s trainer, Ray Arcel. It may seem like a relatively minor role, but in this picture the trainer is as important as the boxer.
The story centers on the relationship between Duran and Arcel as they change each other’s lives.
The film was written and directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz, best known for the TV crime comedy Lynch.
Hot up-and-comer Edgar Ramirez stars as Duran. This is not the first time Ramirez and De Niro have worked together. They also co-starred as bickering in-laws in the 2015 Jennifer Lawrence dramedy Joy. The pair will reteam once more for an untitled 2017 action film, also written and directed by Jakubowicz.
The cast of Hands of Stone also features Ellen Barkin (Animal Kingdom), Ana de Armas (Knock Knock), veteran actor John Turturro, whose latest work includes Exodus: Gods and Kings, Jurnee Smollett-Bell (True Blood; Underground), Reg E. Cathey (House of Cards) and Drena De Niro, Robert’s daughter. Father and daughter have actually appeared together in several movies, including The Intern.
Hands of Stone hits theaters nationwide Aug. 26.
