Russell Westbrook’s First Signature Shoe, the Jordan Why Not Zer0.1, Officially Unveiled
The year is 2018, and Russell Westbrook is getting his first signature shoe.
Crazy, right? The 29-year-old Westbrook is the reigning MVP and a seven-time NBA All-Star, so it’s fair to say his first signature shoe—dubbed the Jordan Why Not Zer0.1—feels a bit overdue. But then again, it only makes sense for a style icon like Westbrook to have the occasion arrive fashionably late. Jordan officially unveiled the Why Not Zer0.1 at their recent Future of Flight event in Los Angeles:
“The Jordan Why Not Zer0.1 is highlighted by its smooth vamp, which, fitting for Westbrook, offers dual purpose. First and foremost, it serves the MVP’s key footwear need: forefoot containment. Westbrook plays high on his toes, always ready to push to the hoop or convert a rebound or steal into a fast break. For this, he needs stability over the sole unit, such that no added movement minimizes response when shifting direction or getting maximum bounce to the rack,” the company writes in a press release.
The shoe’s capability to enhance Westbrook’s explosive game was of the utmost importance during its design, and the Brodie is pleased with the final result. “(The shoe) allows me to move and jump at a fast pace, something that I think is very, very important,” Westbrook says.
Jordan showed off nine colorways of the Why Not Zer0.1 at the event. When you look closer at the sneaker, you’ll find subtle nods to Westbrook’s unique personality spread throughout. Perhaps most notably, the words “Why Not?”—Westbrook’s personal mantra—are printed on every tongue:

“As a kid growing up in L.A. and standing in line to get other people’s shoes, you become aware of how fortunate you are to get sneakers,” Westbrook said. “To be able to sit here now and hold my own shoe is an honor.”
The 2-Way colorway releases Feb. 15 for $125.
