Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of an intriguing new series titled Gypsy, described as a sexy psychological thriller. The one-hour drama from Universal Television centers on an “inappropriate” therapist named Jean Holloway, who develops intimate and dangerous relationships with individuals from her patients’ lives.

The details are being kept strictly under wraps, but some commentators are predicting that the show will be a more sensual version of HBO’s long running psychoanalytical drama, In Treatment. This kind of show has the potential to offer up plenty of juicy plotlines. No word on casting yet, but it will be interesting to see who is chosen for the female lead, which appears to be a colorful and complex role.

Writing the drama is newcomer Lisa Rubin, who will also executive produce the show, alongside Liza Chasin, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. This is one of several exciting projects that Rubin has in the works. She is also currently adapting Gayle Foreman’s bestselling novel I Was Here as well as an adaptation of the novel Food Whore.

Netflix is optimistic about its original programming. According to The Hollywood Reporter: “For Netflix, Gypsy comes as the streaming service has a goal of unveiling new original content every week of the year. The company’s roster of originals also includes Orange Is the New Black, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Bloodline, Fuller House, Marco Polo, Love, Narcos and more.”

The fact that Netflix has ordered so many episodes is a sign that they really believe in the series, which is expected to debut sometime in 2017.
