‘Sinister Six’ Arriving in November 2016
Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff, Sinister Six, will arrive in theaters Nov. 11, 2016.
Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) will write the script and direct the film. Sony believes firmly in his ability to turn the project, which is centered on a group of villains, into box office gold. “With Sinister Six in the hands of writer-director Drew Goddard, we feel extremely confident placing the film on a prime date in 2016,” said Sony exec Doug Belgrad in a statement.
The lineup of villains has not been identified, but Electro, Rhino and Green Goblin, who were portrayed by Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti and Dane DeHaan in Amazing Spider-Man 2, are expected to be included. Reports suggest that Vulture, Doctor Octopus, Kraven the Hunter or Mysterio could also pop up on the team of bad guys.
The plot hasn’t been revealed, so it’s unclear whether the bad guys, who unite in the comic books to take down Spider-Man, will be portrayed as villains through-and-through or as unlikely anti-heros. With the original intent in mind though, there’s a chance that Spidey himself could appear in the film—especially since his next film, Amazing Spider-Man 3, won’t premiere until 2018.
