Softball Superstar Jennie Finch Explains How to Throw a Rise Ball
Two-time Olympic medalist Jennie Finch says that to keep batters off-guard at the highest level, a softball pitcher needs to be able to throw every type of pitch well.
“My dad always told me to never have a go-to pitch,” Finch recently told DICK’s Sporting Goods “453 and a Half Blog.” “He was adamant on me being able to throw all five of my pitches in any given count, in any given situation—and I’m so thankful he taught me to do that.”
In the blog, Finch explains how her father, her teammates, and especially her catcher helped her outperform opponents at every level of competition. In an exclusive video, she also offers an in-depth explanation of the rise ball, an especially tricky pitch that makes the ball jump up right before it crosses the plate.
