STACK Magazine Surpasses All Teen Magazines in Readership
We are extremely proud to announce a new milestone here at STACK. Entering the 2010-11 school year, we have upped our distribution of STACK Magazine by adding 2,072 new high schools, making STACK the largest teen magazine in the country. Our goal is to provide young athletes with the best information and advice possible through all of our platforms, including STACK Magazine, STACK.com and STACK Blog. We hope you continue to enjoy what we have to offer, and we thank you for your support.
NEW YORK, NY—(Marketwire – 11/12/10)—STACK Magazine has stepped up its distribution to high school athletes and now reaches 66 percent of all U.S. high schools with varsity athletic programs. After activating more than 2,000 new subscriptions requested by high school athletic directors, STACK now delivers multiple copies of its magazine to more than 12,000 high schools. This new milestone solidifies STACK’s position as the nation’s leading authority on sports performance and the most efficient way to reach serious young athletes.
STACK’s readership of 4.88 million now surpasses all other magazines aimed at U.S. teens, making it the largest teen magazine in the country, as measured by MRI’s Teenmark audience rankings. STACK is now read by more teenagers than Seventeen (4.7 million); and in the sports category, it dwarfs the teen audience for Sports Illustrated (2.7 million) and ESPN The Magazine (2.4 million).
STACK is the only national publication requested by high school athletic directors. STACK is published bi-monthly with circulation of 810,000 and is audited semi-annually by BPA to provide independent audience verification for the benefit of advertisers. Continued support from STACK’s marketing and advertising partners, such as Nike and Gatorade, enable the company to provide the publication free of charge.
Beginning in February 2005, with a rate base of 300,000 and distribution in 3,200 high schools, STACK has grown its audience every year. The company annually reviews its waiting list of athletic directors who have requested the magazine for their athletes. Entering the 2010-11 school year, 2,072 new schools were added.
Carl Mehlhope, STACK’s senior VP of sales and marketing, said, “I have been around many successful print launches in my career, but I’ve never worked on a publication that had such tremendous natural growth as STACK—without any promotion since its launch. Unique content that is in high demand still makes for a successful business model.” Mehlhope has been with the company since its inception, overseeing both the growth of the magazine and the build-out of the company’s digital platforms, STACK.com, STACK TV and STACK Blog.
STACK pioneered in delivering safe and effective sports performance, nutrition and lifestyle information to a hard-to-reach market segment. For over five years, STACK has published the training, nutrition and lifestyle habits of America’s top professional athletes—with stories about their paths to greatness. The inaugural issue (February 2005) featured LeBron James. Since then, cover athletes have included Amar’e Stoudemire, Landon Donovan, Chris Paul, Peyton Manning, Dwight Howard, Terrell Owens, Kevin Durant, David Wright, Drew Brees and Mark Sanchez—among others. The current issue showcases Michael Jordan, with an exclusive story, “Mind of a Champion,” that reveals how and why he became the greatest basketball player of all time. Written by STACK’s VP of content Josh Staph, the article features the recollections of Tim Grover, founder of ATTACK Athletics in Chicago and MJ’s personal trainer for 15 years. It is a good example of STACK’s access to elite athletes, whose work ethic, accomplishments and advice are inspirational to high school athletes.
