Some sharp new football uniforms are coming to the University of Tennessee. As a part of the UT athletic program’s switch from adidas to Nike apparel, the Vols football team will be rocking three new Mach Speed uniforms in the upcoming season.

The new uniforms strike a perfect balance between traditional and modern.

“We wanted to make sure we are innovative. We wanted to respect the great tradition we have at Tennessee and incorporate that with Nike,” said head football coach Butch Jones at the uniform unveiling.

The home uniforms feature orange jerseys and pants, the color “inspired by the common American daisy, which grew on the hill surrounding UT’s most notable building, Ayres Hall.”

The checkerboard pattern on the helmets is a classic touch, mirroring the orange and white checkerboard end zones, which have been featured at Neyland Stadium since the 1960s.

The white “away” jerseys have a simple, clean design and prominent placement of the “Power T” logo around the collar.

The uniform receiving the most buzz is undoubtedly the “Smokey Gray” alternate. Its two-tone gray jersey and pants—smokey gray and anthracite—reference “the tonal layers of the Great Smoky Mountains, one of the State of Tennessee’s most iconic landmarks.”

UT’s classic orange logo really pops on the gray jerseys and pants.

Perhaps the most unique aspect of the new uniforms are the gray helmets, which feature a multi-tonal graphic of the Smoky Mountains.
