Last week, in response to a reporter’s post-game inquiry, Washington Nationals outfielder phenom Bryce Harper replied, “That’s a clown question, bro.” Since then, thanks in part to videos like this one, the phrase has gone viral, even being used by a United States Senator. Now, Under Armour has announced a new “That’s a Clown Question, Bro” t-shirt for any fan who needs a quick response to a dumb question.
The 19-year-old Harper coined the phrase when a Toronto television reporter asked him if he would be celebrating his 438-foot home run by taking advantage of Ontario’s drinking age (19 versus 21 in the U.S.). Unfortunately, the reporter neglected to do his homework. Harper identifies himself as a Mormon, a religion that forbids alcohol consumption.
The season isn’t even half over yet, but in our book Harper is already the NL Rookie of the Year—on the basis of his “clown” response alone. We’ll be watching UnderArmour.com for the t-shirt in the coming weeks.
